We took our kids on an RV trip in 2018 and loved pulling our "home" with us as we traveled. We built Legends of the Bayou to welcome travelers doing the same thing right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The Trip that Inspired it All...

13 Days, 5700 Miles, 11 States, 8 National Parks, and our family only ate in a restaurant once.

LEGENDS was inspired by an RV trip we took with our family in the summer of 2018. We went west, making it all the way to Malibu, California stopping at national parks and neat little attractions along the way.

The memories are endless... we crossed illegally into Mexico, hiked deep down in caverns, visited the oldest community in America, dived off a cliff, and kayaked through a canyon. We jumped into the Pacific Ocean, battled the blazing heat of the Mohave, experienced the wind tunnel at Arches, and ascended 12,000 feet in the Rockies. And we did it all from the convenience of an RV.

Little did we know it at the time, but the family adventure ended up sparking a family business. We built Legends of the Bayou to welcome visitors from all across the country doing the same thing we did. It's our goal to provide a safe place for you and your family to rest for a night, a week, or even a month.

Joel Dorris

The Bayou Boy

Joel is the quintessential bayou boy.. having grown up on the Legends of the Bayou property. At the age of 2 Joel wandered this wild wetlands barefoot dredging through mud to spot alligators and catch snakes. His father and uncle owned the property and used the space to live and work. A crane once stood where the office is today lifting boats out of the water. The boat repair business gave this property it’s first name.. “The boat yard.” Lots of people have called Legends home for spurts of time. And it’s these people and the people they love that give our park the vibe and the character that it has today.

Today Joel is an electrical contractor and owns Dorris Electric. He’s also a certified boat captain, an avid fishermen, a tango dancer and jiu jitsu fighter. Joel is our Legends historian and your connection to all things outdoors (and the people that can get you there.) All ya gotta do is ask!

Jaimee Dorris

Mississippi's Cheerleader

Jaimee is Mrs Gulf Coast. No for real! She is the unofficial cheerleader for Mississippi having held several titles including Mrs Mississippi American 2020 and “Miss Issippi” — the state bicentennial official hostess in 2017. She has had her own TV show “Ms Congeniality” highlighting all of the cool people and places of Mississippi and is now the morning anchor for WLOX Good Morning Mississippi.

Like Joel, Jaimee is also from the coast and has the inside scoop on what’s cool and what’s not! She’s your resource for great food, exciting events, shopping like a local and getting those all important beauty services. Message her on social media today.

Brennan Stieffel

Park Manager

Brennan has actually known Joel his entire life and grew up right down the road from Legends of the Bayou. He grew up fishing and exploring at a very early age on the same property that he now manages. Brennan, being a local outdoor enthusiast, can get you connected with all things in the area. Ask him anything about the best local eateries or even the latest fishing reports! He’s quickly become a friendly face around the campground and truly looks forward to meeting new people.

Brennan also spends his time fulfilling his calling in ministry with his wonderful wife Mallory. They’ve been married since 2013 and have three amazing children together. Ally is their oldest daughter who is now attending LEAD college to take her next step in education and ministry. Emersyn is their youngest daughter who is the intelligent problem solver but still loves to fish with her dad. Rhett is their son, is all things boy, and is following in the footsteps of his father! Brennan truly is a family man, rooted in faith, whose heart is for reaching and leading others. Be sure to tell them hello as you will most likely meet all of them during your visit.

A Family Affair

Joel and Jaimee have a blended family of 5 kids, 3 businesses and 3 dogs.
Legends of the Bayou RV Park is a family business and all of the kids are involved in one way or another.

Micah

Micah is head of all things technology. He's our track star who works the front office on the weekends. If you have an issue with anything tech, don't hesitate to reach out.

Hayden

Hayden is part of our maintenance team. You may see him making repairs around the property but his favorite task is riding the tractor. He enjoys listening to music really loud and riding his motorcycle.

Kaytlin

We were all affected by that infamous RV trip in 2018, but none more than Kaytlin. You will likely not see her around Legends because she moved to Colorado in 2021 to continue exploring the American west.

Olin & Joel Jr

Olin and Joel Jr put lots of blood, sweat, and tears into helping build Legends. Joel Jr is a US Marine now, and Olin plans to be an electrician likes his dad. You may spot them during the holidays helping out around the park.

The Doodles

The official mascots of Legend of the Bayou -- Dakota, Alaska, and Cali Girl. You might likely spot one or all of them during your stay. Please do come up and say hi. Maybe they can play with your pups in the dog area.
