Start Your Day on the Water
There’s something special about mornings on the bayou. As the sun rises, great blue herons stalk the shoreline, ospreys circle overhead searching for fish, turtles warm themselves on fallen logs, and mullet occasionally leap from the water. It’s a peaceful setting that feels miles away from busy highways, yet you’re only minutes from Bay St. Louis.
Many of our guests begin the day with a cup of coffee by the dock before launching a kayak or casting a fishing line.

LEGENDS features a private boat launch, making it easy to bring your own fishing boat, skiff, flats boat, or personal watercraft.

If you enjoy paddling, you’re in the right place. The calm waters surrounding LEGENDS are ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding, especially during the morning hours when winds are typically lighter.
For a longer adventure, the nearby Jourdan River Blueway offers approximately 8.5 miles of designated paddling through hardwood forests, marshes, oxbow lakes, and beautiful coastal habitat. Along the way you’ll experience one of Mississippi’s most scenic blueways while enjoying opportunities to spot birds, turtles, and other native wildlife. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful one-hour paddle or a half-day excursion, there are plenty of routes to explore.
Fishing Right from the Dock
You don’t have to own a boat to enjoy fishing here. Many guests spend relaxing afternoons fishing directly from our dock. Depending on the season, you may catch a surprising variety of fish thanks to the mix of fresh and salt water flowing through the bayou. The waters around Bay St. Louis and the Jourdan River are productive throughout much of the year, and moving tides often bring fish right past the dock.
What Can You Catch?
The estuary surrounding Bay St. Louis is where freshwater rivers meet the saltwater of the Mississippi Sound, creating ideal habitat for many popular game fish. Common catches include:

- Largemouth bass farther upriver

Fishing Licenses & Supplies
Mississippi requires anyone age 16 or older to have a fishing license before fishing in public waters unless an exemption applies. Licenses are available online through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks, or at many sporting goods retailers throughout the area. Keep in mind that Legends is on a freshwater bayou, but if you plan to take your fishing trip out to the Gulf, it’s saltwater, so you’ll need the appropriate license for that. Don’t forget to learn the unique size and limits on our local catches too.
Understanding the Tides
One thing every visitor should know is that life on the bayou revolves around the tides. Unlike a lake, the water level here rises and falls throughout the day as tides move between the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. These changing water levels influence everything from boating conditions to fish activity.
Many experienced anglers actually plan their fishing around a moving tide because baitfish become more active and predator fish often feed as the current changes. If you’re bringing a boat or planning to fish, checking the daily tide chart is always a good idea.
