Whether you’re planning a long weekend or looking for a relaxing getaway, the Mississippi Gulf Coast offers the perfect blend of beaches, history, great food, outdoor adventure, and small-town charm. One of the biggest advantages of staying at LEGENDS of the Bayou RV Park is that you’re centrally located to experience all of it while returning each evening to the peaceful surroundings of the bayou. Here’s how we’d spend four unforgettable days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Day One: Settle In & Discover Bay St. Louis
After arriving at LEGENDS of the Bayou RV Park, take some time to settle into your campsite, hook up your RV, and enjoy your first glimpse of the bayou. If you’ve traveled a long distance, there’s no need to rush. Vacation starts the moment you pull in.
Once you’re ready to explore, head just ten minutes into Historic Bay St. Louis, one of Mississippi’s most beloved coastal towns. Spend the afternoon strolling Old Town, browsing locally owned boutiques, art galleries, antique stores, and gift shops. Walk through the harbor, admire the sailboats, and take in the views along Beach Boulevard.
When dinner rolls around, you’re spoiled for choice. Enjoy waterfront seafood at The Blind Tiger, 200 North Beach or a memorable fine-dining experience at Sycamore House (I’d recommend calling ahead of reservations) End your evening back at LEGENDS with a quiet walk along the bayou and a spectacular Mississippi sunset.
Day Two: Beach Day & Coastal Relaxation
Wake up with coffee outside your RV before heading to one of the nearby public beaches. Unlike many Gulf destinations, Mississippi’s beaches are wide, uncrowded, and protected by offshore barrier islands, creating calm water that’s perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply floating in the gentle surf.
Spend your morning relaxing at Bay St. Louis Beach or Pass Christian Beach before grabbing lunch at a local waterfront restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Pass Christian Harbor, drive scenic Highway 90, or simply continue enjoying the beach.
If you’re visiting during the summer, don’t miss sunset along the shoreline. Mississippi sunsets over the Gulf are often every bit as beautiful as the sunrise destinations farther east. Return to LEGENDS for another peaceful evening on the bayou.
Day Three: Choose Your Adventure
This is the day to customize your vacation. If you love the outdoors, book a fishing charter and spend the morning chasing speckled trout, redfish, or flounder in the marshes and bays surrounding Bay St. Louis. Prefer a slower pace? Launch your kayak directly from LEGENDS and explore the bayou and nearby waterways while watching for herons, ospreys, turtles, and other wildlife.
Looking for crystal-clear Gulf water? Take the ferry to Ship Island and spend the day swimming, shelling, exploring historic Fort Massachusetts, and enjoying one of Mississippi’s most beautiful natural treasures.
If indoor attractions are more your style, head east to Biloxi to visit the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum, the Mississippi Aquarium in Gulfport, or one of the Coast’s renowned casino resorts for shopping, dining, or a relaxing spa treatment.
Whatever adventure you choose, you’ll appreciate returning to the quiet comfort of your RV campsite at the end of the day.
Day Four: New Orleans by Train
Before packing up, treat yourself to one final adventure. The Bay St. Louis Amtrak station is only about ten minutes from LEGENDS, making it easy to enjoy a stress-free day trip to New Orleans.
Leave your RV behind and let the train carry you into the heart of downtown New Orleans. Spend the day exploring the French Quarter, riding the historic St. Charles streetcar, shopping along Royal Street, enjoying a world-famous Creole lunch, and strolling beside the Mississippi River.
With no traffic to navigate and no parking to worry about, it’s one of the easiest ways to experience one of America’s most iconic cities. By evening, you’ll be back in Bay St. Louis enjoying one last peaceful night on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Get links and learn more by reading this article.
Why Four Days Is Just the Beginning
One of the things guests tell us most often is that they wish they had planned a longer stay. Four days gives you a wonderful introduction to Coastal Mississippi, but there’s still so much more to discover—from Mardi Gras celebrations and Cruisin’ The Coast to golf courses, farmers markets, live music, kayaking, birdwatching, casino entertainment, and countless locally owned restaurants.
Many visitors arrive expecting a beach vacation and leave having discovered an entirely different side of the Gulf Coast—one filled with authentic communities, welcoming people, and unforgettable experiences.
At LEGENDS of the Bayou RV Park, we’re proud to provide a peaceful waterfront RV campground where you can slow down, reconnect with nature, and use Bay St. Louis as your gateway to everything the Mississippi Gulf Coast has to offer. We hope this four-day itinerary is just the beginning of your Coastal Mississippi adventure.
